An E.C.A.D.R. Dog
UPDATE: Toby is now 11 years old and had his right eye removed in July 2009 due to an ongoing infection. The infection was starting to cross over to his other eye, which made the surgery necessary. Once the right eye was removed, the infection immediately cleared in the other and has been fine ever since. He has adjusted well (we don’t think he could see much out of the right eye, anyway) and enjoys the fact that he now does not need daily eye drops or ointment. He has some arthritis starting in his hips, so he is on a joint supplement as well as NSAIDs when his pain worsens, usually during damp weather. He cannot navigate any steps--we have built ramps from the door to deck and from the deck to the backyard that he uses, but he would do just as well being carried outside. He is not able to jump up on furniture, but loves to sleep in a doggie bed near his people. He loves males and females equally, but has not been around children. He also likes to be around other pets, although he doesn’t really interact with them, just likes to be in the same vicinity.

UPDATE: Toby is a handsome 9 year
old with lots of love to give. He was one of 10 good quality, but
very
neglected,
Pekingese we rescued when the breeder died and his widow wasn't
able to take care of them. Toby is a very sweet boy. He is
never aggressive and likes to have his own space. He currently
has his
bed under the kitchen bench and just loves to sit there and watch
everything. He loves food and treats, so have to be careful as
he is overweight and currently on a diet. He loves the outdoors
when the weather is nice and will stay out for a very long time.
His legs are so short that he cannot move fast, but he can get
up and down short stairs. He is really warming up to affection
and will play by lifting up his paw and rubbing his face on you.
He does not like to be up on the furniture, preferring to stay
on the floor. Toby has been around other animals all his life
and pays no real attention to them. He doesn’t play with
toys or other pets, but always seems very happy.
Basically, Toby needs
to go to a special person who has no steps, a fenced yard,
doesn't want an active dog, and doesn't need a dog that is overly
affectionate
or playful!
