LAO SHU

An E.C.A.D.R. Dog

UPDATE: Lao Shu continues to have ultrasound exams every three months to determine the growth of his mass. Although the mass has not shrunk, it has not grown, either--that is a good thing!! He continues on maintenance medication to help contain this tumor. Since being on a special anti-cancer diet with special supplements, he has made great improvements. He now has hair growing on his tail and feet, with even more on his face and head! He has begun to play with the other dogs, something he has not been interested in doing before. He is finally feeling better and learning how to be a "real" dog--something he was not able to experience while living his days in a puppy mill.

UPDATE: Sadly, Lao Shu has been diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer. We hoped he would be a candidate for surgery, but he is not. This type of cancer, and it's location at the bladder wall, is such that it would only recur in a short time. Lao Shu's foster mom is going to keep caring for him until he is no longer happy and exhibits a poor quality of life. However, his vet bills will keep coming for the medications he needs to keep him comfortable and free of opportunistic infections. Any donations for him will be appreciated.

Lao Shu is a very affectionate Chinese Crested Hairless approximately 5 years old. He was a puppymill stud dog and spent most of his life inside a wire cage.

Lao Shu is enjoying his new found freedom immensely and appears to cherish every moment. He jumps up in excitement to greet people he knows, and prefers the company of humans to that of other dogs and cats. Not that he doesn't get along with them - he just doesn't go out of his way to befriend them.

Being a mill dog, Lao Shu was never housebroken so he has been wearing a bellyband in the house. But he is learning that dogs potty outdoors by going out with the other dogs - when he first arrived in his foster home he didn't understand that concept at all and just stood next to the door to come back in. Now he wanders around the yard with the others and does his thing. He is smart and it's expected that the bellyband will soon be a thing of the past.

Since he has never been around children, homes with any younger than teens won't be considered. Lau Shu will be a wonderful, loving companion to someone who is able to give him the time and attention and love that he deserves.

He is being fostered in Manlius, NY and his asking adoption fee is $250.

E-MAIL INQUIRIES WILL BE RESPONDED TO FASTER THAN TELEPHONE CALLS.

NOTE: Due to the volatile price of gas, getting multiple volunteers to help with long distance transporting is no longer feasible. We have listed the town and state where each dog is being fostered. Please consider how far you are willing to travel when filling out the application. The foster home will usually volunteer to help with transport for a reasonable distance.

If everyone reading this would send just $1 it would help so much in maintaining her care.
And Lao Shu would be so grateful!
